The hotels in Cancun all have water-purifying systems but because of the salt and the chemicals ... it’s still recommended to drink bottled water.
Tip the maids, even a few dollars everyday will go a long way. They work hard and aren't paid much. Also, bringing small toys/pens/pencils/etc for their children is always appreciated.
all-exclusive is the way to go, at hotels and clubs. May cost a little extra, but it's so worth it.
Every night there are tons of pizza guys driving around on their scooters. You can easily bargain them down in price for the pizza. Sometimes the pizzas are cold though, so If you want a guaranteed fresh pizza, you should phone in and order it.
Don't drink the tap water! No need risking fucking up your vacation by drinking the tap water..always drink from bottled water (it's sold everywhere)
DO NOT dance with locals, no matter how drunk you are. These local girls (guys too maybe, I don't know) have tricks to take advantage of drunk tourists. I was taken by a 'Beer goggled' mexican girl. She started with dancing, which turned into a little pocket pool, before I knew it, she was out the door and my pockets were empty. But not before her friend pulled the same scam on my buddy. Damn.
When you're leaving airport building and going towards your bus, there's going to be people wanting to help with your luggage. They are going to expect a tip, so if you want to save your change, just hold on to your bags and say 'no thanks'.
When you get to the airport, hold off buying a Corona. The guy who sells them near the busses outside charges like $3 or $4 for them. Just think that if you hold out for 10 minutes, you will be at your hotel, drinking as many all-inclusive Coronas as you want.
