Going on my 10th trip to Cancun this weekend. Tip the hotel check-in person $50.00 and get a full suite for free at my favorite resort. Always keep a pocket full of $1 bills for tipping. Always negociate taxi fare before taking taxi...that's if you have to take the taxi. Cancun does have more than it's fair share of drugs so beware. Safety in numbers when you are on the streets. Try to respect the locals if they are respecting you. Don't be an American ass in their country.
Cancun has good medical services. I broke my arm falling off one of the buses our second day there. Hospital was clean and very modern. And cheap. The dr. spoke english and even let me take his pictue. Beautiful water. So clear. Going back in 5 months. Also, it is okay to haggle with the street vendors. Make a couple of bids and have money out, if they say no, start to walk away, the will call you back and so ok. But, let them see the money!!!!
Watch the taxi drivers! It is not a good idea to take a taxi drunk off your ass (especially being a female!) Always have someone with you! Other than that, Congo Bar has a really hot waiter that I'm in love with and he's the reason I'm going back next year (speaking Spanish!!) If I could change anything about my trip, I'd have kept in touch with him! Other than that, had a great time. Watch alcohol content!
I should have listened to all the warnings. Corrupt police, expensive, unsafe, creepy local guys, Go someplace else, like Iraq.
Watch your drink. Do not allow anyone to take advantage of you in that way. This goes for women and men. Take care of yourself and have a great time.
Avoid all the tours arrange by "tour guides" in Cancun. Just go downtown to the bus depot and buy a ticket to Playa Del Carmen or anywhere for that matter. Is is only about 3 bucks. There you can do what you want. Youc an also take a ferry to cozumel from there and it too is cheap. They have nice scenic buses that equipped with TV and with AC so do it. Waayyyy Cheaper and Waaaayyy Safe. ....Thats Hot!!
Bring extra sunscreen!!! I lost mine and it costs about $35/bottle. Also bring a bunch aff small bottles to put it in, that way if you loose one you will still have more in your room.
Don't take any boyfirends/girlfriends down there... cause if you do , you are going to wish you hadn't!
I hope that some of you remember that holidays in a foreign country like Mexico can also mean discovering another culture, different people, and living smart adventures. Going to another country during spring break doesn't only mean fussing around: don't forget to respect the local people and the city, as you would like a foreign person to respect you if they went to your home town...
